I'm writing this review because I was really taken by the content of this material-taken to a place I found erotic and fascinating...and in the end-inspiring. The true life experiences Lisa recounts in her search for her own truth sexually, intellectually, emotionally and philosophically is what intrigued me, aroused me and, later, inspired me. All of us, i believe, are here for a reason and, as we grow up, that search to understand our purpose here can take us in directions we never could have imagined, and to unexpected realizations. I knew the woman who wrote this book when we went both went to the same high school together. Back then I thought she was "out of my league" as we used to say of people...we had reconnected through a common Facebook page and that's how I found out about this book. I must admit, I bought the book expecting to learn about Lisa's search for "The Big O", but came away with a deeper understanding of the girl-now woman-I knew from afar in high school. Her honest self- exploration, I think, is valuable for other women to help them realize what I believe they may already know, but may be afraid to admit to themselves or the world...that whatever shape or size or race or background, that they are beautiful and valid and sensual and intelligent and unique entities...that they should celebrate their uniqueness not squelch it I'm order to conform to the expected "norms" of society. I now know this woman in a whole new light... And I am blessed to know her!Product details

Lisa Guest loves sex and loves to write about it. In this, she is closer to Henry Miller than to Anais Nin, an eroto-literary heroine early in Ms. Guest's sexual writing career. Like Nin and Miller both, Ms. Guest is interested in the range of human experience that gets constellated in sexual activity emotion, pleasure, pain, anguish, ecstasy, doubt, and the voice of flesh.
As a result, despite her Steve Jobs-like sense of focus—on sex, not Apple—her book is not pornographic. It's graphic, yet my sense as I read along was that her purpose was not to titillate. Rather, I think she simply wants to share, like an explorer giving a talk at the Royal Society in London after a year's sojourn in Borneo. Except in this case, the sojourn was decades long and its destination was always internal—a level of experience, not conquests or counting coup. There are many notches on her belt, yet I sensed that her interest was less in these relationships than in their sexual harvest, which was not a matter of quantity, but an attempt to capture the ineffable that sex brings us toward—and to capture it both in her experience and in her writing.
Alas, most artists discover that the piece that keeps being "not quite there" is always going to be not quite there. It is one of the prices we pay for this human life. Larry Ellison can't get it no matter how many Hawaiian islands he buys. Cezanne abandoned painting after painting in failed attempts to capture it. And I sense that Ms. Guest, despite more than a good old college try—it's more like she's attempting the entire Ivy League here—in the end begins realizing that sex, like art, is largely its own reward, not a portal to immortality or a perfection that lasts. Human life is not about perfection. Perhaps, it's excellence. Perhaps, mastery. All we can do is make our attempts.
In this account, she has made a brave attempt to have an experience and to describe it. She doesn't come away with the Holy Grail, but she does something else she writes naturally about a subject that is all too easy to dress up in floral vocabulary or to smear with pornographic, disrespectful attitudes and terms of reference. She does neither. Her description of a tantric encounter is remarkable in its lucid description of that encounter's sense of presence and force. She simply tells what happened and is convincing.

... it's going to be a thought provoking, orgasmic ride! This book is fabulous, because it is free of the dogma of bland emotions, mannerly sexual behavior, and perfunctory literary style. The writer really has a flair for descriptive narration which makes the people and places come easily to life. (Yes, come easily )
