A Hint Of Scandal Signet Regency Romance Rhonda Woodward 9780451208576 Books

This is a new author for me and if I hadn't read a few of her other books this weekend, I may have even rated this higher. I think the one and 2 star reviews were a bit harsh. Again this is a 'clean' romance and I found it refreshing to follow the story and not pages and pages of sex scenes. We'd seen this H in 'A Spinster's Luck' where he helped that H establish his h. We know that he is a rake with quite a reputation. In this book he is shot and injured when the h's brother finds him and gets the h to help take care of him. Most of the first part of the book revolves around the h nursing the H and him recovering and it is a little slow. Through some meddling by the h's cousin, the h is compromised and the H has to marry her. As the negative reviewers have mentioned, from the time of the marriage, the H leaves the h for long periods of time without every talking to her properly about their marriage and it is a weakness in the story. The h's continual talk about getting the marriage annulled was annoying and implausible for the time period. Aside from that I did like the story and I liked the H and h. There is the mystery of why the H was shot and some time is devoted to that in the book. The h's cousin is extremely irritating and I could've done but overall I really enjoyed the story.

A Hint Of Scandal Signet Regency Romance Rhonda Woodward 9780451208576 Books Reviews

Set around the year of 1818. Alexander Arthur Henry George, Duke of Westlake, received a summons from his widowed sister-in-law. Her ten year old son had an accident and was near death. Worried for his nephew, Alex set off immediately. Only his groom, a lad named Johnny, accompanied him. En route they were attacked by highwaymen.
Arabella "Bella" Tichley was awakened by her younger brother, Tommy, and told of the half dead man outside. Bella nursed Alex to health while keeping as many nosy neighbors away. As he recovered, Alex spent some wonderful time with Bella and her family. By accident, Bella was compromised and they were forced to wed.
Bella felt ill at ease on Alex's huge estate and very lonely since he was off on business. She decided to join her cousin, Lady Beatrice, who had recently gone to London for her first Season. From the moment she arrived, Bella was followed by a hint of scandal and a bit of danger. More was going on than she knew.
All through the story the reader knows what the danger was and it was not hard to figure out who was behind it all. Yet author Rhonda Woodward kept me interested by the unusual circumstances surrounding the romance of Alex and Bella. Terrific light reading!
enjoyed it
When the Duke acts as a gentleman, can the scandalized young women accept her new role as his wife? Because she is forced into the marriage, Bella is convinced that her husband will also want the marriage annulled. But she fails to see that her husband is in love with her and that she has been falling in love with him. This love story ends sweetly, with tenderness--Bella got a gem of a husband! I love this series by Rhonda Woodward. (Each book can be read independently of the others.)
I have read all of this authors Regency romances and this is one of my favorites. It is about Alex, the Duke of Westlake, and Arabella Tichley, The Duke is shot by a highwayman and loses much blood and loses consciousness. His horse carries him many miles to the house where Arabella lives with her father and younger brother. The Duke is half dead and unconscious and is taken into the house with much difficulty by Arabella and her brother. So begins the story. This book has many twists and turns and much excitement. I highly recommend it.
The Duke is on his way to see about his only Heir (His brother's son) because his sister in law as written a desperate letter indicating the poor lad is on his death bed.

The duke is injured in an attempted murder and is left for dead. He stumbles upon a house but collapses before he is able to tell anyone who he is.

Bella's little brother alerts his sister and together they bring the stranger in and Bella nurses him back to Health till they can find out his true identity.

Unfortunately for Bella, in a matchmaking plot gone wrong by her cousin, she finds herself suddenly alone overnight with the Duke and is forced to marry him to save her reputation.

If this was the only plot to the novel, because it was well developed it would have been quite enough for me, but Ms Woodward delighted us in adding a twist to her tale.

This is another recommendation due a 10 star rating.

Lovely Lovely read.
This was another excellent regency by Rhonda Woodward. A simple plot, a reforming rake, a marriage of necessity, and a beautiful heroine who is way out of her depth. What more could a regency need? Turn our reforming rake into a duke, throw in two more dukes for good measure, stir in one elegant dowager and sprinkle a few country eccentrics on top and you have a winner. The Hero is a returning friend from A Spinster's Luck and he is as delicious as ever. Drake and Celia make their returns in this novel. The heroine, however, is the star of this book. She begins the novel as a pragmatic country Miss whose only ambition is to be comfortably married to a neighbor who is something of a dandy. By the end of the novel this self-effacing little caterpillar breaks out of her cocoon and becomes a marvellous butterfly, flying confidently in the world she belongs in. A very lovely heroine. My only complaint is that she never confronts Alex about being a rake. She sort of speaks to it at the end of the novel, but we as readers are rather left hanging since that was the most objectionable aspect of Alex's suit from the beginning and an issue Bella struggles with both in her mind and on the dance floor when confronted by his past mistresses. And his eldest sister's abject dislike of Bella was never resolved. She has the dowager's approval and Louisa's but the other sister never comes around. I wish the epilogue had been a little longer. Poor Henry's situation was also never resolved. But aside from those few quibbles, this was an excellent book. Very highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
