This book is great in every aspect! Tim is a great writer and forgets no detail (yet doesn't bog one down with too many specifics!)! The love story, the travels, the scenery, the people (Grandma and her shots and strawberries), it all makes for an unforgettable, funny book! I will be reading it again because I know I didn't get all of the visuals the first time through! It's nice how Tim brings history into their travels and yes, it's amazing how much politics was going on yet they backpacked across Europe! I'm so happy Tim has shared his and Ewa's story!
If one is looking for intrigue, mystery, murder, and mayhem,this is not the book for you. If, on the other hand, one appreciates an amusing and interesting slice-of-life story, rich in details, you will enjoy this book, a realistic >version of "How I Met Your Mother."

Tim, as a young college student, travels to Poland with a Barbershop Quartet group, and meets a talented, young, Polish tour guide, Ewa. After a year of correspondence, Ewa comes to Iowa, returns to Poland where she is visited by Tim the following summer. Together they hitchhike across Europe finding youth hostels along the way.

Although the European travelogue became somewhat tedious, the story moves on its conclusion. Throughout, the author is adept at mixing the local- color features of rural Iowa and Poland with historical tags, including Jimmy Carter and John Paul XXIII.

An additional note the version I read appears to be a draft as it lacked traditional quotation marks and standard spacing. I presume that will be taken care of in the future.
My Life With Ewa is an absolute delight! It not only captures a pivotal time in a young man's life, but a precarious time in our cultural and social history. Author Tim Pratt has a clear and precise writing style that is breezy and refreshingly insightful at the same time. Pratt takes you along into his world filled with romance, adventure and barbershop quartets. With a folksy style that sometimes fools you into thinking we're only inside the mind of a landlocked fellow from Middle America, Pratt washes away any notions of being the country bumpkin -- this guy is razor sharp and as sophisticated as they come. Pratt demonstrate he is as comfortable driving a school bus in Des Moines as he is negotiating the roads and rails of Europe. And downright funny, Bill Bryson funny!

My Life With Ewa is a love story written by Tim Pratt and edited by his son, Andrew, so this thing is a family affair which I find to be really refreshing! The Pratts are not shy about letting us laugh along with them as they laugh at themselves. As I think of it, My Llfe With Ewa is similar to the kinds of stories I used to read in my grandmother's copies of the old Reader's Digest. That stuff was warm and funny, a joy to read just like, My Life With Ewa.

Tim Pratt is a keen observer of life and never fails to miss the everyday ironies that achieve laugh out loud hilarity rooted in truth. His memory of small but telling details that occurred many decades ago is amazing. This man has some very special powers, and we are the beneficiaries of his rare talent of recall. Most of all, it is hard to believe this is Tim Pratt's first book. My only hope is that we will have a volume II, III, IV and more!
This is a wonderful book for anyone to read!! I happen to know the author, Tim Pratt, who is a very kind, caring person. I would suggest this book for a Christmas present as it is a good book to sit down and read by the fireplace on a cold wintry day!

Tim Pratt's book, My Life with Ewa, spoke to me of a simpler and lighthearted time when relationships, friendships and just living life were just higher on the list than they are in today's technological, fast-paced society. It called me to appreciate with fondness how special the good old days really were. Tim Pratt has always been a master storyteller. I am glad that he committed his vast recall of events, friends and connections to print. It was a joy to read. I'm looking forward to the next one!
