I'm the minority here in that I hated this book. The sample held promise, but after buying the book, it went downhill.Heroine blew hot & cold. She likes him, she likes him not. The poor hero was trying so hard but she was just...ugh!!! 50% & she's still doing the same crap to him, over & over, everyday, different scenario but same crap! I had to skip pages, thinking at 86%, she should have come to her senses, right? Hell no! She loses a contest, decides to crash her obnoxious ex's party, gets drunk & kisses him, I mean, what the heck?! She strung the hero along practically the entire book. Hero did not deserve her at all.
I've read some YA books with heroines (she's 18) who acted according to their age; this girl did not. Awful!

Sticks Stones eBook Veronica Lovejoy Reviews
This book is good, although does need some correcting as it's difficult to follow. the storyline is good and could be a strong book.
I would recommend this book to any teen to young adult looking for a good read. I have read many books but I can actually say this is the first ever book I actually cried reading. It is amazing. I gave it 4 star as because, even though there were a few grammar mistakes in my opinion, was an overall great read. I could not put it down! No doubt that this is a amazing book.
One of the biggest advances in parenthood was creating the Young Adult book category. It is the Judo of the literary world. To resist our teenager's world is to dismiss them.
Sticks and Stones is a sweet story that we want our teenager to read. It contains all the problems of youth, but best of all The tools to solve them.
How can a young girl make her final transition into adulthood? It's all here--in Sticks and Stones. Buy it fast. Your teenagers will be leaving soon--with or without "tools."
Sammy has it all good looks, lots of friends, and a loving family. When
it comes to the opposite sex, however, she is lost and confused by her own
emotions. The problem is further complicated by her need for popularity
and the respect of her peers. The rumors and gossip have haunted her since
that one unfortunate night many years ago. She thought it was all behind
her, until one day someone comes back into town, bringing all the bad
memories back to the surface. She is now forced to deal with her issues
and to discover what her true feelings really are. Sticks & Stones is a
beautiful romantic tale for the young teenage reader. It has characters
you care about and can identify with as they are put through the same
situations that many young people have to go through every day. It has a
positive message of self-esteem and confidence. It contains no sexually
explicit content but does contain some brief strong language.
Sammie, the heroine kept going back and forth as to whether or not she wanted to even be seen in public with Brandon, the hero. Everytime she looked around for this gang of supposed gossipmongers that would "ruin her life" i couldn't help but roll my eyes. Its not like she was going around making out with her cousin while spouting communist propaganda. She was just talking and kissing in private with a kind well liked military man. I seriously quit reading when she got so put out because she didnt win a writing contest that she went and crashed her exes party. Really! 18 is young and people can be stupid at that age but all i could think of is that this is how you screw up a perfectly good man.
The character was very naive and annoying. I was really disappointed in this story. I didn't even want to finish reading it.
Now I liked the idea of the book, but then I started reading, and even though I disliked the protagonist from the beginning I forced myself to read on. She was selfish, rude, unable to take criticism, a sore loser and she cared more about the gossip of others than the feelings of the love interest. Her fatal flaw though, the one that ruined it for me was her pride, constantly throughout the book the reader is getting it shoved in their face about how gorgeous she is, how much of brilliant writer she is, it really distracts from what I assume the novel is supposed to be about, confronting your fears in order to be with the one you love, freely.
I just didn't get any of that from this book and I would absolutely not recommend it to a single person I know. Ever. I just wouldn't subject them to a character like that. It's sad really, the book had so much potential.
